The Word Alliance brings together thirty of the world's leading literature festivals. Through this powerful network we support associated writers and festival organisers around the globe. By showcasing the writers' work, by creating interesting new literature projects and by providing the opportunity to enhance every festival's programme even more. In truly international spirit The Word Alliance's goal is to connect and to create.
Our Vision
1/13
Highlight every partner festival's position as part of „The Best of the Best“. The focus here lies on specifc quality, the festival's history and its relevance in the world today.
2/13
Bring the directors of all Alliance festivals together. This provides a valuable exchange along with the opportunity to develop projects, ideas and cooperations with mutual benefts. In addition, it maximises attention and promotional impact.
3/13
Create an exchange for exciting talent. This gives each festival the opportunity to send “their” authors abroad and receive another nation's recommendations in return. Cultural knowledge and local insight become mutual benefts.
4/13
Encourage governments and cultural bodies to invest in the promotion of domestic culture as well as in literature overseas.
5/13
Share knowledge on business practices, organisational structures, admin and business planning.
6/13
Collaborate in seeking and lobbying for new sources of funding.
7/13
Create opportunities for staff exchange, mentoring and placements.
8/13
Create an international platform for local artists.
9/13
Provide an international platform for major sponsorship. This is aiming at international brands looking for unique opportunities in the positively connotated environment of literature.
10/13
Advocate and endorse freedom of speech.
11/13
Increase international programming. We help guarantee the high quality of locally unknown writers who are being introduced at Alliance festivals abroad. This extends to providing opportunities for not just authors but also guest curators.
12/13
Guarantee exceptional standards for the treatment of authors.
13/13
Communicate the strength and depth of our international engagement to audiences, authors as well as funders.
